Spring has sprung in Cherven

​This past week three intellectual disability  nurses  travelled to  Belarus to spend some quality time with the children and young adults of Cherven Orphanage. After a long cold winter the girls were  welcomed with open arms. Alyson, Taylor and Bridgette returned to Belarus and brought the warmth of spring with them. The love and the joy these ladies brought to the children was evident from the big smiles on every face. 
They had a jam-packed week, busy with so many activities and making sure to spend time with everyone. They even paid the residents of Yazovki Adult Asylum a visit.

​"On the 25th February we returned to see everyone in Cherven. It brought us great happiness to see all the smiles in each of their faces throughout the week. We got the chance to spend time with the kids and young adults in every group. We made so many memories it’s so hard to narrow it down. One memory that stood out to us was playing fun games like duck duck goose and catch with the older boys in group 8, where everyone got involved spending the whole afternoon running around and laughing. It’s amazing to see how the communication barrier has no impact on building relationships and bonds with one another. Even in groups 1 and 6, (children and young adults who are bed bound) bringing sensory toys such as bubbles, feathers and musical instruments can bring them such joy. It was so heart warming to see them appreciate the little things. In unit 5 “the crazy walkers” we admired their endless energy and enthusiasm. With a child hanging off from each arm and leg we were lucky to leave that group in one piece. It truly was a crazy, emotional, fun filled week and a special thanks to the amazing Irina for making the week so memorable. Can’t wait to see everyone again soon. Spaceeba Tay, Bridge and Alyson 🌻"
