In the past two months we have had two groups of young people from Gorodishche come to Minsk for a holiday. The two groups got the opportunity to enjoy some respite in the comfort of Dom Zara our Minsk HQ. They explored the city, soaking up the festive atmosphere and decorations and ate like kings and queens for the week! |
The first group in December really got the full experience of Minsk at Christmas/New Year time as the streets were decorated top to bottom in lights, they even met Father Frost. There were still some festive sights to be enjoyed for the second group as they explored the city.
Visits to the zoo, aquarium, museums, cinema, art galleries, the national library and viewing deck, shopping centers and restaurants. Exploring the metro was very exciting too but of course nothing could top the highlights of pizza and McDonalds for all! Vitalik was especially excited last week as he celebrated his birthday in Minsk, with some presents, a big meal and cake (of course!)
These visits provide the young people with so much - an exciting holiday filled with new experiences but also and just an importantly a break from their everyday lives, some respite, peace and quiet. All of the young people who came to Minsk have daily responsibilities so this offered them a break from that too.
As always the parting words were a combination of "Thank you" and "When can we come again?!" a good sign of a good time!
A big thank you to our Irina and Tamara and teachers Ira and Valya who accompanied them. Thank you for your donations that make these respite holidays happen. You have no idea the joy you've brought to them all.
If you'd like to make a contribution to the next holiday see here for more details.
