April 26th 1986 - April 26th 2018
‘Elena and the professor turned and began walking to their dacha. Behind them and above them and it seemed almost within them and yet somewhere outside of time itself, in a momentary shattering of their blissful family evening, the night sky rumbled to a fierce crescendo of thunderous noise until it seemed as though creation itself had been cancelled; as though the creator God had changed his mind and called everything back into chaos once more. Light, sound, heat, stillness and motion, silence in the eerie deafening noise, all came together in a contradiction and cancellation of life force, as though something devilish gave birth with one mighty belch of chaos; as though hell rose up and vomited forth another formless void, gathering up and devouring all living things, all birds of the air, all beasts of the field. So it was that Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor Number Four did what it had been threatening to do and blew up, sending one hundred and ninety tons of highly radio-active uranium and graphite into the beautiful night sky over their heads.’ (From ‘Nuclear Families’)
As we reflect and remember we continue to work.
Each year we hold a Fun Run/Walk at the time of the anniversary to raise funds for various projects. This year we want to focus on one project. We hope to raise enough money to send a truck of humanitarian aid to Belarus (or maybe two!). This would be our 107th truck of aid to travel. The trucks we send are full of clothes, bed clothes, furniture, children and adult pampers, medical equipment, hospital beds, walking aids, wheelchairs and so much more. They are distributed to families, communities, day centres, orphanages, adult asylums, old folks homes and to anyone in need of help. By donating €5 or more you can help up send this truck and it's much needed aid to Belarus in May 2018.
The people of Ireland are always so generous and have gathered all this aid, now we need your help to raise the funds to transport it. Thank you for your support and please share with your family and friends.
**Update: Thank you all so much! We raised the €3,000 goal and sent the truck to Belarus where the contents have been distributed throughout the country and have been received graciously. спасибо!
