GorodishcheGorodishche 'Internat' (asylum) is home to 220 children and young adults who are aged between 4 and 25. Gorodishche is a remote village a little over a two hour drive south west of Minsk. Since our first visit in the late '90s the place is totally transformed. A new building which was 13 years under construction has finally finished and most of the groups have moved in there. The Burren Chernobyl Project has three programmes running annually in Gorodishche: Volunteer Programme
Nutritional Programme Some of the children in the orphanage need more than what they are currently able to get out of their daily meals. Initial supplies of vitamin supplements have helped and also implement a nutritional programme. Disposable Nappy Programme Disposable nappies are very expensive and the orphanage cannot afford nap-pies for all the children and young adults who are incontinent. The children are changed three times a day. Disposable nappies are bought locally and distrib-uted to cover 30% of the orphanages requirement. The monthly cost of this programme is €1,000.
