Burren Chernobyl Project

Building Programme

The building programme's goal is to make the institution 'more human'.

Irish volunteer workers in conjunction with some local Belarusian craftsmen undertake the following works in Adult asylums:

  • Installation of new toilet facilities
  • Installation of washing units and sinks
  • Setting up hot water for the units
  • Improvement to electrical wiring
  • Laundry improvements
  • Improvements to TB units
  • New floors
  • Provision of clothing and footwear
  • Plastering, repair and rebuilding

In 2005 a group of plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, plasterers and general handymen carried out significant development work in Tarasiki. The most needy unit was rewired with toilets and hot water facilities installed. The kitchen and dining rooms were upgraded and painted. BCP have upgraded the laundry facilities recently and installed presses and shelves in many areas.

These developments are part of a three year building programme in Tarasiki which is nearing completion.
